ART SALE @ FELIX KULPA GALLERY & SCULPTURE GARDEN FEATURING CARLOS & PETE 107 Elm Street Santa Cruz, California 408.373.2854 FELIX KULPA GALLERY & SCULPTURE GARDEN
Carlos Dye
I create stories not with sentences and paragraphs, but with imagery and text. I construct personal narratives through visual memories of my upbringing. In my work there is angst, temptation and happiness that is transposed through iconography for the audience to visualize the ideas I'm portraying. Using iconography in my work creates confusion and contradiction that is much like word play. I'm asking the audience, what is right , what is wrong ,what is good, and what is evil? Through this process of reading my work, one can see the story that I have presented.
I have choose clay as my medium to tell these stories due to the fact that ceramics is a lasting durable material that could be treated as a artifact. Much like many other ceramic artifacts found telling the story of a civilization hundreds and hundreds of years ago. My work will tell the stories of life of love, torment, and debauchery.
